Why Slacker-Reviews.com? Why would anyone call themselves a slacker? Hey, it's an attitude. Everything has gotten too serious. We're hoping to lighten things up a bit. Besides, all the time we spend on this site should probably be spent on real work. We just like movies and would like to encourage others to check out some of the ones we like. This is where the "Slacker" comes from. It isn't meant in a stupid, drugged out, lazy, Kevin Smith sense, but more in a thoughtful though somewhat unmotivated, Richard Linklater sense.

The bottom line is, movies can be many things. From an attempt to appear a lot smarter and more tasteful than you actually are, to a way to be scared, moved, angered, educated, or just watch great looking women and wonder if they will get naked. It is also because of our belief that the flood of internet movie and DVD review sites take themselves far too seriously. You'd think these people were actually creating something, rather than simply writing about what others have created. That's not to say that we don't take movies seriously. Just that they are not the beginning and end of all meaning in life and our writing about them doesn't amount to much of anything, other than a way to believe we actually have something to say which is worth reading. It's a delusion we enjoy entertaining.

We are here for the enjoyment of movies and are perfectly willing to say good things about a movie like Chicago without fearing it will somehow threaten our station as males. The reality is, most movie reviewers are men who seem to be constantly afraid of complimenting movies which aren't either masculine or thought-provoking. We also review virtually unknown and impossible to obtain movies like Ken Park even though few are likely to ever see them. If they exist and pique our interest, we will write about them.

The internet is full of DVD Review sites. Slacker-Reviews.com in not one of them. We are here to talk about movies, particularly the hundreds of movies which come out each and every year which don't necessarily star anyone you are likely to see on Entertainment Tonight. Believe it or not, the love of movies does not involve knowing who Angelina Jolie is having sex with this week or where the pictures of Suri Mapother (Tom Cruise's real last name) are. We don't understand the logic behind raving about the fantastic soundtrack in movies like the 1999 remake of The Haunting. The movie stinks folks. Who really cares how low the bass goes? Most of all, we are interested in spending our movie watching time enjoying the story, acting, cinematography and all around cinema experience rather than looking for edge enhancement and listening for excessive sibilance. We'd much rather put the effort into mixing a good drink. We are here to take back the movie experience from the techno-geeks and return it to more normal people.

Most of all, Slacker-Reviews.com strives to review movies which don't get the attention they deserve. Outside the handful of blockbusters released every year is a great range of wonderful movies which are well worth seeing. But remember, we are slackers here. We're not a bunch of snobs. If you like reviews with a double dose of arrogance, we suggest you give DVDBeaver.com a try. At Slacker-Reviews.com we believe in the ability to enjoy action movies, chick flicks and snooty foreign fare on equal ground.
